When you have completed all parts of this assessment

This task you will be observed presenting information and negotiating persuasively.

To complete task, you must be observed by your trainer completing the negotiation in person or by providing a video recording.

3.1 You need to imagine that you are an employee at Bounce Fitness.  This task requires at least two people because you are going to negotiate a workplace issue with another student.

You have to be prepared to play either Trainer A OR Trainer B.  Your partner will be the other one.

The issue:

In the past, Bounce Fitness trainers only had to work Monday to Friday.  However, there has been an increase in demand from the gym members requiring fitness trainers on weekends.  As a result, management has decided to introduce a variety of classes and personal training sessions on Saturdays.

To begin with, they will roster three trainers on from 8am - 12pm on Saturdays.

Two trainers have already volunteered to work the Saturday shifts, but the gym still needs one more trainer to fulfil the requirements.

Trainer A and Trainer B both have commitments on Saturdays and neither of them wants to work the Saturday shift.

Trainer A Information:

You have a child who is involved in weekend sport every Saturday morning.  Your child is very good at the sport and plays an important role on the team.   You always take your child and their friend to the sports games every Saturday at 9am.

 

Trainer B Information:

You are a volunteer lifeguard and you work at your local beach every Saturday morning.  You have been with the club since you were young and you enjoy working in your role as a lifeguard alongside your friends.  Your lifeguard shift is 6am to 10am.

 

Trainer A and Trainer B both need to present their arguments persuasively and negotiate a final outcome.

 

 

 

During the negotiation you must:

  • Identify and use a variety of communication styles relevant to varying audiences
  • Present information in a succinct, clear and persuasive manner
  • Evaluate differences in perspective and critically examine outcomes
  • Negotiate towards a final outcome with a focus on key outcomes
  • Present information in a persuasive and professional manner
  • Apply negotiation techniques to reach desired outcomes

At the end of the negotiation you must:

  • Explain to your trainer how you will confirm and implement the outcomes of the negotiation using appropriate methods

See Chapter 3 in your Learner Resource for further information that can assist you during your negotiation.

You can either:

  1. Hold the negotiation at EIP with another student for your assessor to observe (Your trainer will provide you with details on when the observation will happen)

Once completed, your assessor will give you the signed Observation Sheet. Copy and paste this sheet into the box below.

The Observation Sheet can be found at the end of this Task.

  1. Hold the negotiation with another person at another location and film the negotiation to submit to your assessor.
