1. After watching the video I found the fact that the government was standing by and not helping for the longest time the most bothersome. It truly boggles my mind that the government would watch its citizens in true peril and living through a disaster and not doing anything. I can understand if the government was waiting to assess the situation or make a plan of attack before committing their forces but to just stand by with their hands in their pockets really doesn't sit right with me. I think that the lack of care and empathy shown to the victims of the hurricanes was really a letdown especially considering hurricanes aren't exactly uncommon so the lack of necessary capabilities to respond is truly disappointing. I think the lack of government activity and aid in both COVID-19 and Hurricane Katrina have very similar parallels. Both the federal and state government did not make an adequate job of helping the situation. I think that the government was less prepared for COVID-19 because of the lack of mass epidemics in modern times but they were definitely not as ready as they should have been for Hurricane Karina.
2. What bothered me most about this video is how the Government reacted to this disaster and how long it took for them to take action. It makes a statement that most of the victims where poor and black and that made me think was areas of poverty purposely ignored? I do see parallels from how the government response for hurricane Katrina and Covid 19 I think the biggest one being how long it takes to receive answers. I feel like when covid began it felt like information was always being withheld. I believe that the government should make better game plans for these events and take action sooner.
