When Anne Elliot’s status-obsessed father sends the family into debt, they must rent out their ancestral country estate and move to Bath. The new tenants are the brother-in-law and sister of Anne’s former fiance, Captain Frederick Wentworth. Anne broke her engagement many years before due to pressure from her family and her godmother, Lady Russell, because they felt Wentworth wasn’t high class enough for Anne. As Wentworth becomes a part of Anne’s social circle, she is convinced that he now loathes her, even as some of his actions hint at lingering tenderness. After family tragedy, a scheming suitor, and a pair of weddings, the couple slowly persuade each other that they have never stopped being in love.
