The Bon Ton Store, operated by Haydock and Simon, was the largest shop in town, the neatest, and the cleanest. Harry Haydock, the manager, was known as a hustler who thought Gopher Prairie a real he-town. His wife, Juanita, was a feather-brained woman with a "rattling voice," and an interest in personalities. Dr. Kennicott called her a cat. She had the feminine lead in the amateur theatrical and tried to steal the show, though prevented by Carol. Harry Haydock had a younger brother, Earl, who was a juvenile delinquent.
