A View from the Bridge is a play by American playwright Arthur Miller that premiered in 1956. Set in an Italian-American neighborhood on the Brooklyn side of the Brooklyn Bridge, the play follows the unraveling of Eddie Carbone following the arrival of two of his wife’s cousins from Italy. Eddie is obsessed with his niece, Catherine, and threatened by her relationship with one of the cousins. As the events of the play unfold, Eddie loses the ability to manage his feelings for Catherine, which causes him to betray his relative and, ultimately, lose both his honor and his life.
