Written in 1962 and set in a future dystopian England, A Clockwork Orange tells the story of Alex, a teenager with violent tendencies who also has a strong love for art, language, and music. When Alex is arrested after brutally murdering an elderly lady, he undergoes Reclamation Treatment as a means to “cure” his violent tendencies. The treatment also takes away his free will and love of music. A Clockwork Orange explores the dilemmas of free will and its consequences, as well as the consequences of conformity.
