Palomydes is captured and condenined to die for killing a lord in fair fight at the tournament at Lonezep ("Tristram's Madness and Exile"). He is rescued by Launcelot backed up by Tristram and borne to Joyous Gard. While Palomydes is there, Tristram learns that Palornydes has never renounced his old love for Isode. Tristram again challenges him to a fight. Three days before the appointed time, Tristram is accidentally wounded by an archer ("Sir Launcelot and Queen Guinevere," Part 3), so that he cannot meet Palomydes. Palomydes rides off greatly relieved, and Tristram, as soon as he is well, begins to hunt him.
