I came across a music channel that featured "tejano," and then I saw the same word when I was reading Bless Me, Ultima. What does it mean?

Tejano music is a regional musical style from southern and central Texas. Tejano is Spanish for Texan. The term most often applies to a Texan of Mexican descent. In Bless Me, Ultima, Antonio's father reminisces about his youthful days spent on the wide open plains, the llano, of Texas:

"Ay, but those were beautiful years," my father continued. "The llano was still virgin, there was grass as high as the stirrups of a grown horse, there was rain — and then the tejano came and built his fences, the railroad came, the roads — it was like a bad wave of the ocean covering all that was good . . ."
