Henry V

Henry V

William Shakespeare

William Shakespeare's Henry V opens with King Henry V planning and executing a war with France over some disputed lands and titles. This is the last play of William Shakespeare's tetralogy; the Elizabethan audience he was writing for would have known the three earlier plays and been familiar with many of the characters. Shakespeare presents Henry V as the ideal Christian monarch, even though the play's audience would know that the king gained the crown by questionable means.
