1. Write a short story in which you imagine how Jake met Brett, and how their unsuccessful affair played itself out.
2. Using a map of Paris (hint: find one with a detailed index), trace Jake’s route around the city before he leaves for Spain with Bill. Although many of the cafés and clubs no longer exist after eighty years, almost all the streets and other landmarks can still be located.
3. Imagine that you’re writing a screenplay for a two-hour movie of The Sun Also Rises. You’re limited to about 120 script pages. Which of the novel’s scenes, characters, and events would you include and which would you exclude?
