Bleak House

Bleak House

Charles Dickens

Charles Dickens's Bleak House follows 20-year-old Esther to the happy home of her new guardian; and Lady Dedlock, who discovers that a corrupt lawyer knows her secret — that Esther is her illegitimate child. When the lawyer turns up dead, the story turns from Esther's coming of age into a murder mystery. Charles Dickens' Bleak House is a long, slow novel, which was common in the Victorian era because most people enjoyed reading and didn't require intense stimuli in literature.
