Introduction to Verbs

A verb is a part of speech that expresses action or state of being or connects a subject to a compliment. They indicate whether the subject performs an action, called active voice, or receives the action, called passive voice. Verbs can be transitive or intransitive. Verb tenses are formed according to person, number, and tense.

Verbs also have moods, which are classifications that indicate the attitude of the speaker. Problems with verbs are often the result of an incorrect tense, or the difficulty many writers have with the past and past participle forms of irregular verbs. Verbs play a key role in constructing sentences.
